This Thanksgiving is one that we will go down in our books for sure. It all started Wednesday night when I got home from work. Kevin and I decided that we would drive to Richfield that night. So we loaded up the van with all our stuff and 2 kids ... and on we went. We were about 45 minutes from home it was already dark outside and of course I had to be the one driving. I was in the fast lane doing like 80 and it was quite busy when all of sudden I hear a huge thud and the van is slowing down. So I pulled over to the sholder (far left, fast lane) and sure enough we had a blown a tire and it wasn't even flat it was demolished we were driving on the rim. Meanwhile we have no cell phone, and the van starts to rock side to side because the cars (in the fast lane) are whizzing past us. I am freaking out and telling Kevin I hope those cars see us and don't hit us from behind.
Kadin my little boy said, "Mom lets say a prayer," I said alright. To be honest while he was praying I had one eye open looking toward the back of the van thinking that any moment we were going to be hit from behind. At the end of his prayer Kadin said, "Oh I forgot one more thing, and Kadin said, "And please help us not to freak out!"
Kevin changed the tire and put the spare on and we got off on the first exit and drove to the nearest gas station. At the gas station we get out of the van, it gets better, and the spare tire/donut had come off the rim. So there we were like sitting ducks. So we finally were able to call my sister and brother in law to come rescue us. We ditched our van and decided we would figure it out after Thanksgiving. We got home around midnight and that was the end of that. We made the most of our Thanksgiving Day but mostly relaxed and ate too much pie.
I share this story because it reminded me of Elder Wirthlin's talk "Come what may and love it." So when things don't go as planned "come what may and love it." I was also so proud of Kadin that he didn't even question what he needed to do in a time of need. He prayed to his Heavenly and I his mother am humbled by this experience.
